DVA has no single budget. Each veteran holds a card and a separate approval for each program, so Care Nexus checks every booking against the right one: the VHC care plan, the nursing referral or the determination. Veterans and their families book and follow their services in a free client portal.

DVA services
Care Nexus holds the services for each DVA program, priced from your provider agreement or the current DVA fee schedule, with the claim rules for each.
Approved in a VHC Assessment Agency care plan, with a small co-payment.
On a GP, hospital or nurse practitioner referral. Claimed per 28-day claim period.
Approved in a written determination with a weekly limit.
Approved in a determination, with its own weekly limit.
Booking rules
These rules run every time a DVA service is booked, by your team or by the veteran in the client portal. They start as the rules in Service Settings, and any of them can be changed for one veteran only.
Gold Card holders are eligible for all assessed needs. White Card holders are eligible only for an accepted condition or Non-Liability Health Care, so a White Card with no accepted condition recorded is flagged. Orange Card holders aren't eligible for these programs.
Each program has its own approval: a VHC care plan, a Community Nursing referral, or a Household Services or Attendant Care determination with its claim reference. Care Nexus checks the right approval is in place and current on the booking date.
Hours approved in the VHC care plan are tracked against services delivered. Reassessment dates are monitored, and a booking after the reassessment date is flagged. Social assistance runs as a 12-week service from its approval date.
Community Nursing needs a valid referral, and the nursing care plan review mustn't be overdue. Each booking falls into a 28-day claim period, and DVA claim limits for visits, overnight care, consumables and once-only items are enforced automatically.
Household Services and Attendant Care are each checked against the hours and weekly limit in the veteran's determination. Attendant Care has its own weekly limit, separate from Household Services.
DVA doesn't fund the same help twice. A veteran with both Veterans' Home Care and Household Services for the same type of support is flagged before the service is booked.
A booking for a future date can be confirmed and held. Claims can't be made for a future date, so the booking is checked again when the service is delivered.
When a rule isn't met
Each rule is set to one of three responses. You choose per service, and can change it for a single client.
The booking can't be confirmed until the rule is met. Use it where funding can never apply, such as a plan or approval that has ended.
Your team sees exactly which rule isn't met and can continue with a reason, which is kept with the booking for audit.
Only the part funding covers is booked to the funded service. The rest is offered as private funding, at your matching private service rate.
Limits can be set in hours, visits, units or dollars, and taken from the program rules, the client's approval or your own policy.
Booking rules are set for each service in Service Settings and apply to every client. Open any client's funding to change a rule for that client only. Customised rules are clearly marked, and rules can be switched off for services that need no funding check.
Invoicing
Each DVA program is paid differently. Care Nexus invoices or prepares each one the right way.
The veteran's co-payment is invoiced and sent automatically, and DVA pays the balance. Where DVA has approved a co-payment waiver, the veteran isn't charged.
Nursing is priced from the current DVA Community Nursing Schedule of Fees and prepared for lodgement through Medicare. The veteran is never charged.
Invoices to DVA include the DVA file number, claim reference, TRN and approval details.
Client and family portal
Veterans and their nominated family members get the client portal free. Every booking they make is checked against the same DVA rules your team uses.

Questions
