CHSP services,
booked within every approval.

CHSP has no individual budget, so Care Nexus checks every booking against the client's My Aged Care approval, the referral code and frequency for that service, and the annual caps. Clients and families book, change and follow their services in a free client portal.

Booking rules

The CHSP booking rules,
explained.

These rules run every time a CHSP service is booked, by your team or by the client in the client portal. They start as the rules in Service Settings, and any of them can be changed for one client only.

  1. The My Aged Care approval is current

Each client's approval is recorded with its status and review date. Bookings after the review date are flagged, and approvals coming up for review in the next 60 days are highlighted so your team can act early.

  2. The service has a referral code and is inside its dates

Every CHSP service is approved separately in My Aged Care, with its own referral code. Care Nexus checks that the service being booked has a referral code and that the booking falls inside its valid dates.

  3. The approved frequency isn't exceeded

Each referral carries an approved frequency, such as 2 hours a week or 2 hours a fortnight. Bookings are checked against what has already been used in that period, so the hours left are visible before you confirm. Extra hours agreed with the client and family can be paid privately.

  4. Time-limited services end on time

Services approved for a limited time are checked against their end date, so a booking past it is flagged.

  5. Annual caps are respected

Equipment and products are capped at $1,000 per client per financial year, including delivery and installation. Home adjustments are capped at $15,000. Spending is tracked against each cap, and any cost over it is paid privately by the client.

  6. Partners aren't charged twice

When a client's partner is also a CHSP client, the contribution for a shared service isn't doubled.

  7. Other programs are checked

A Support at Home participant can receive CHSP services but pays the CHSP contribution directly and can't use their Support at Home budget for it. Additional CHSP services for them are charged at full cost recovery. Residential aged care residents can't receive subsidised CHSP services.

When a rule isn't met

Each rule is set to one of three responses. You choose per service, and can change it for a single client.

  • Block

The booking can't be confirmed until the rule is met. Use it where funding can never apply, such as a plan or approval that has ended.

  • Warn

Your team sees exactly which rule isn't met and can continue with a reason, which is kept with the booking for audit.

  • Suggest private funding

Only the part funding covers is booked to the funded service. The rest is offered as private funding, at your matching private service rate.

Limits for any period

Limits can be set in hours, visits, units or dollars, and taken from the program rules, the client's approval or your own policy.

  • Per booking
  • Per day
  • Per week
  • Per fortnight
  • Per month
  • Per 28 days
  • Per quarter
  • Per financial year
  • Approval or plan period

Set once, customised per client

Booking rules are set for each service in Service Settings and apply to every client. Open any client's funding to change a rule for that client only. Customised rules are clearly marked, and rules can be switched off for services that need no funding check.

Invoicing

Client contributions,
set the CHSP way.

Under CHSP the government grant funds your services and the client pays a contribution. There's no means test: the contribution is agreed with the client in writing, and Care Nexus invoices it automatically.

Contribution invoices sent automatically

Each client is invoiced their agreed contribution for every service delivered, and the invoice is sent for payment. The government grant is never invoiced.

Reduced contributions and hardship

Set a client's contribution as a percentage of your standard fee, add an optional weekly cap, and record hardship evidence. Every invoice tells clients they can ask about financial hardship at any time.

Fees by state and remote loading

Set contributions by state where your fees differ. Where your organisation has an approved MMM loading for remote and very remote areas, it's applied by client location.

Minimum charges and cancellations

Set a minimum charge and time steps for each service, and the notice a client must give to cancel. Late cancellations can carry a fee up to the client contribution, waived for emergencies and unplanned hospital stays.

Records ready for DEX reporting

Every service delivered and every contribution collected is recorded against the client, giving you the data you need for your DEX reporting.

Ready for the move to Support at Home

CHSP is due to transition to Support at Home no earlier than 1 July 2027. Care Nexus already runs both programs, so your clients and records move with you.

Questions

CHSP services,
answered.

  • How does Care Nexus check CHSP bookings without a client budget?

CHSP has no individual budget, so Care Nexus checks the client's My Aged Care approval, the referral code and approved frequency for each service, and the annual caps for equipment and home adjustments.

  • Can CHSP contributions be reduced for hardship?

Yes. A client's contribution can be set as a percentage of your standard fee, with an optional weekly cap and hardship evidence recorded. Contributions can be reduced or waived.

  • What happens when a CHSP client wants more hours than approved?

Care Nexus shows the hours left in the approved frequency. Extra hours can be booked as private funding at your matching private service rate, if the client and family agree.

  • Can CHSP clients and families use the client portal?

Yes. Clients and their nominated family members can book services, change booking days, request new services and see services delivered and invoices, free of charge.
